Each piece is carved or turned from one solid piece of wood. After careful preparation I hand-paint finely detailed, original designs using an earth-bound palette that surrounds central areas of patinated gilding. The combination of color, gold and wood blends to create works of art with a warm, classical quality that evokes a sense of history unique to each person who sees them.

My desire is that these decorative bowls bring the feeling of joy, beauty and tradition that I feel as I create them.

hearthstone ochre garden terra cotta and black

detail of terra cotta and ochre bowl

woven vine

Shaari Horowitz is an artist from Sharon, CT. A graduate of Pratt Institute with a BFA , she specializes in mural painting using the technique of Trompe L\'oeil. Her intricately painted and gilded wood bowls began as a balance to her work in the mural painting tradition, as they allow her the pleasure of working on a more intimate scale. Over the years Shaari has been inspired and fascinated by such varied sources as asian laquerware, medieval manuscripts, native american beadwork, and the frescoes of Pompeii. These influences can be seen in the pattern and flow of every bowl she paints.
